1. Types of Child Abuse

Key Concepts & Definitions

Physical Abuse: A form of abuse involving causing physical harm to a child through hitting, shaking, burning, drowning, or other means. It may result in injuries such as bruises, bleeding, or pain in genital or anal areas, and can include sexually transmitted infections or pregnancy.

Emotional Abuse: The persistent emotional maltreatment of a child that causes severe and lasting adverse effects on their emotional development. It includes conveying worthlessness, silencing, inappropriate expectations, bullying, witnessing ill-treatment, or exposure to domestic issues.

Neglect: Failure to act to prevent harm or provide for a child's basic needs, leading to issues such as poor hygiene, malnutrition, or inadequate clothing. It is a form of maltreatment where the caregiver does not meet the child's essential physical or emotional needs.
