  • Yalta Conference: A meeting held in Crimea in February 1945 where the Big Three (USA, USSR, UK) discussed post-war Europe, including territorial and political arrangements (source).

  • Decisions at Yalta:

    • Germany was to be divided into zones of occupation.
    • Germany was to be demilitarized and denazified.
    • Monopolies of major German companies were to be broken.
    • Creation of the United Nations was agreed upon to establish a new world order, inviting only countries that fought against the Axis Powers.
    • Stalin promised to enter the war against Japan after victory in Europe.
    • The conference did not settle issues regarding Soviet-Polish borders and reparations.
  • Unsettled issues at Yalta:

    • Soviet-Polish borders, with borders to be set along the River Oder and Neisse.
    • Reparations from Germany, which remained unresolved.
