1. Définition du handicap

Handicap : Selon la loi du 11 février 2005 (article 2), « toute limitation d’activité ou restriction de participation à la vie en société subie dans son environnement par une personne en raison d’une altération substantielle, durable ou définitive d’une ou plusieurs fonctions ». Il s’agit d’un processus dynamique résultant d’interactions entre une déficience, une incapacité et un contexte social.

Déficience : Toute perte de substance ou altération d’une structure ou fonction psychologique, physiologique ou anatomique. La déficience peut être temporaire ou définitive, représentant une modification ou une perte d’une capacité ou d’une structure corporelle.

Incapacité : Correspond à toute réduction partielle ou totale de la capacité d’accomplir une activité en lien avec une déficience. Elle traduit la difficulté ou l’impossibilité d’effectuer une tâche spécifique.

Désavantage : Les conséquences sociales des déficiences ou incapacités. Il s’agit d’une limitation ou d’une interdiction d’accomplir un rôle social, influencée par des facteurs sociaux et culturels, et non uniquement par la déficience elle-même.
