Endospore-formers are bacteria capable of forming a dense, resistant survival structure called an endospore in response to nutrient deprivation. These structures enable the bacteria to withstand adverse environmental conditions such as heat, drying, radiation, and chemicals. Most endospore-forming bacteria are gram-positive, motile, rod-shaped, and belong to the genera Bacillus and Clostridium.

Non-endospore-formers are gram-positive bacteria that do not produce endospores. They typically have a regular shape and staining properties. Examples include genera such as Listeria and Erysipelothrix.

Irregular shaped and staining properties refer to bacteria with atypical morphology or staining characteristics. This group includes bacteria with unique cell wall features, such as Corynebacterium and Mycobacterium, which may exhibit irregular shapes or acid-fastness, respectively.
