Why is chemistry more important in PCSI than MPSI?

Because PCSI prepares the PC track, where chemistry has a two to three times higher coefficient than in MP. At Mines-Ponts for example, the chemistry written paper weighs 8% in PC vs 4% in MP. At Centrale and CCINP, it's similar. If you aim for ENS Chemistry or X chemistry option, it's even more pronounced. In PCSI, chemistry takes about 30% of physics-chemistry time, vs 20% in MPSI.

How do I succeed at a potential-pH diagram at concours?

Follow a systematic method: 1) identify species (oxidized/reduced, acid/base forms), 2) write redox half-equations and acid-base equilibria, 3) calculate switching pHs (vertical boundaries) and potentials (horizontal and oblique boundaries), 4) draw placing species by stability order. Check consistency (no unphysical crossings). With 10 standard diagrams practiced, you master 90% of concours questions.

Should I do organic chemistry in PCSI?

Organic chemistry isn't in the PCSI curriculum (it comes in PC second year). But basic notions (functional groups, nomenclature) help understand mechanisms in general chemistry. If you aim for X or ENS chemistry option, getting ahead on organic (Clayden chapters 1-5) is smart. Otherwise, focus on the official curriculum: plenty to master already.
