Practice Test Maker
Updated · By the Revizly team
Revizly writes a multiple-choice practice test from your own class material in about 30 seconds. Every question has one right answer and an explanation, so you find out what you don’t know before your professor does.
Real example
Psychological Research Methods
What went in: A PDF from an intro psychology research methods class, uploaded by a student.
Research is a careful, organized, and systematic process of investigating a problem or question to discover new facts, verify existing knowledge, or find solutions. It is based on collecting, analyzing, and interpreting information rather than relying on guesses or personal opinions.
These are the first questions Revizly wrote for that PDF, unedited. Try them.

Question 3 of 5

Question 5 of 5
What does informed consent require before a person agrees to participate in a research study?
How to make a practice test from your notes
Sign in, upload your notes, slides or a PDF, and Revizly writes multiple-choice questions that cover every topic in the material. You take the test right away, on your phone or laptop, and see why each answer is right or wrong.
- Upload what you’re being tested on: lecture slides, a textbook chapter, your own notes, photos of a handout or a YouTube lecture.
- Revizly reads it, splits it into topics and writes questions for each one, with one correct answer and three plausible wrong ones.
- Take the test. After each question you see the right answer and a short explanation that points back to the material.
What makes a good practice question
A good practice question tests whether you understand the idea, not whether you recognize a phrase. The wrong answers should be tempting, and the explanation should tell you exactly what you missed.
That’s what the questions above are built to do. The wrong options in the reaction-time question are all real characteristics of research, just not the one being described, so you can’t get it right by elimination. You actually have to know what empirical means.
Revizly also checks each question before you see it, so you don’t get questions with two right answers or an answer key that contradicts your notes.
Why practice tests work better than rereading
Pulling an answer out of memory strengthens it far more than reading it again. Researchers call this the testing effect, and it’s one of the most reliable findings in learning science.
In a well-known study by Roediger and Karpicke, students who took practice tests on a passage remembered much more of it a week later than students who spent the same time rereading it. Rereading feels easier, which is exactly why it’s less effective.
Practice tests also tell you where you stand. Missing three questions on the same topic two days before a midterm is useful information. Missing them on the midterm isn’t.
How to use your practice test before an exam
Take the test once without your notes, review every question you missed, then retake it a day or two later. On a paid plan you can generate a fresh set of questions so you’re not just memorizing the answers.
- First pass: no notes, no peeking. Treat it like the real thing.
- Review: read the explanation for each miss and reread that section of your study guide.
- Second pass: one or two days later. Focus on whether you can explain the right answer, not just pick it.
- Fresh questions: new questions on the same material keep you honest.
Is the practice test maker free?
Yes, there’s a free plan. It covers 2 classes a month with a preview quiz of 4 questions per class. Essential and Premium give you full practice tests on every topic, and you can ask for a fresh set of questions when you’ve learned the first one.

Can I make a practice test from my own notes?
Yes. That’s the whole idea. Upload your notes, slides or a PDF and the questions come from that material, not from a generic question bank.
What kind of questions does it write?
Multiple-choice questions with four options and one correct answer, plus an explanation for each. Some classes can also use a multi-select format where more than one answer can be right.
How many questions do I get?
It depends on how much material you upload. A typical chapter gives you around 15 to 25 questions on a paid plan. The free plan shows a 4-question preview.
Can I take the test more than once?
Yes, as many times as you like. On Essential and Premium you can also generate a new set of questions on the same material.
Is this the same as an AI test generator?
Yes. Revizly uses AI to read your material and write the questions, then checks them before you see them so the answer key matches your notes.
Do I need an account?
Yes. You sign in with Google or email so your tests and scores are saved. The free plan covers 2 classes a month.
Can teachers use it to make tests for a class?
Revizly is built for students studying their own material. Teachers can use it to draft practice questions, but there’s no classroom or grading feature.
Does it work for nursing or pre-med exams?
It works from whatever you upload, so it’s a good fit for pharmacology, A&P or biology classes. It doesn’t replace an official NCLEX or MCAT question bank, but it’s a fast way to test yourself on your own course material.
